Professional Recognition of NBCSA


Several members of the NBCSA have served as acting Judges in various High Court Divisions in the Republic of South Africa. These members are the following:

  • Advocate Mattie Klein
  • Advocate Cassim Moosa
  • Advocate Lilla Crouse
  • Advocate Tshepo Mosikatsana
  • Advocate Christelle Fouche

Our members also receive briefs from Legal Aid South Africa in both criminal and civil matters.

The Judicial Service Commission established in terms of section 178 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 also invites NBCSA to submit comments on candidates who have been selected to be interviewed for judicial appointments. Among its functions the Judicial Service Commission interviews candidates for judicial posts and making recommendations for appointment to the bench.

Our member Advocate Cassim Moosa also serves as a Commissioner in the Magistrates Commission established in terms of the Magistrates Act, 90 of 1993. This Commission is chaired by a judge, designated by the President in consultation with the Chief Justice. One of the functions of the Commission is to advise the Minister regarding the appointment of magistrates.

One of our members Advocate Mattie Klein serves on the National Forum on the Legal Profession established in terms of section 96 of the Legal Practice Act 28 of 2018. The role of the National Forum on the Legal Profession is to provide a legislative framework for the transformation and restructuring of the legal profession in line with constitutional imperatives so as to facilitate and enhance an independent legal profession that broadly reflects the diversity and demographics of the country as set out in the Legal Practice Act.
